It was but the early autumn of 2018 when Invocation released The Mastery of the Unseen EP through Iron Bonehead. Although only two songs, The Mastery of the Unseen was presciently titled, for the power-trio made masterful strides since their debut CDR in 2016 and the extremely promising Seance Part. I demo released later that year. Exhibiting the same sulfurous energy as the first works but now displaying a uniquely feral poise, that two-song salvo set the stage for yet another presciently titled work: Attunement to Death.
Indeed, with Attunement to Death, Invocation are reaching a hellish harmony with their classic South American diabolism, but imbuing it with an ever-deeper - and ever-more-unique - aspect that bountifully displays their authentic grounding in the occult. In fact, one could argue that Attunement to Death is a clear 'n' cutting iteration of the Invocation aesthetic, robust and roiling and brimming with a confidence that betrays their still-young years as a band. And yet, for however well-recorded Attunement to Death might be (and executed with deadly precision by the band), there's nevertheless a gritty, time-honored analog feel to Invocation's fiery ruminations. Hysteria begat possession previously, but now is offered transcendence for the willing acolyte...
Reviews:
- Lucifer Rising 9,5/10
- Chaos Vault 9/10
- MetalBite 8,5/10
For beginners it's Invocation's best material to date. Imposing and very threatening at the bare minimum, these songs are twisted, bold and surging with stamina. Songwriting efficacy has shot-up and tripled, production value has also taken a hoist, the material is a bit more technical, impactful and challenging
- Metal Imperium 8/10
- GRIMM Gent 8/10
Invocation incorporates a similar shift in blast beats that reminds me of Incantation and Drawn and Quartered. However, the newest EP grants the listener with pure old school riffing. The demonic resonance of the growls and the rhythmic guitars are measured by the meticulous performance of the trio. The band offers 31:00 minutes of demonic intensity where the biggest influence comes from acts such as Incantation. Invocation can be distinguished among the many bands from Latin America and this EP is only the beginning of their triumphant onset to something immense. This latest effort from the Chilean trio should be appreciated by the fans, and hopefully, we see them debuting their first full-length album sometime in the near future. This is one of the best EP’s to surface out in 2020 so if you like bands such as Incantation, Drawn and Quartered then you must check out this EP.
- Grizzly Butts 4/5
Dialing back the side-effects of dark entrancement the inescapable reality is that Invocation have grown exponentially in strength in creation of these dark rituals. “The Officiants” and “Divine Transition” are the absolute best pieces Invocation have written to date, I’d highly recommend paying close attention to those songs and likewise highly recommend this fine record as one of the best death metal records released this month.

This is the most personally appealing piece of music I have run into in a long time - from the beautiful lyrics and art and the crushing, non pretentious gorgeous heavy music. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, crushing - are there are other words? Gorgeous, exquisite.... sock4never

An outstanding Extreme doom death album, in the best tradition. The funerary atmosphere reminds of Evoken ('Centuries of ooze" bears striking similarities, for my delight). It is overall sharp, dark, hypnotic and unrelenting. One of those rare convincing new bands that hold proud the legacy of the biggest names. Bertrand Marchal
